Though one of the older condominiums in Honolulu, Hokua is considered the first real luxury condominium in the Honolulu/Kaka'ako area. Completed in 2006, Hokua was developed by the MacNaughton Group, the Kobayashi Group, and Alexander & Baldwin. This development brought 248 new luxury homes to the neighborhood of Kaka'ako, of which overlook Ala Moana Beach Park, the Pacific Ocean, the surrounding cityscape, and even have partial views of the Ko'olau Mountains and Diamond Head.

The Neighborhood

Hokua is located directly across the street from Ward Village, with the famous and historic IBM building across Queen Street from the tower. A bit further down Queen Street is the Ward Village shopping mall and the South Shore Market, which are home to various local boutiques, international chains, popular restaurants and cafés, and more. The same can be said for the Ward Centre, which is located a few hundred feet down Auahi Street from Hokua.


One block over brings you to the Ward Entertainment Center, where the immensely popular Consolidated Theatres Ward location sits, as well as Bucca di Beppo and Dave & Busters. Across Halekauwila Street from the entertainment center is the largest Whole Foods Market in the State of Hawai'i, which is located directly underneath Ward Village's Ae'o condominium. As a result, grocery shopping is incredibly convenient and simple for residents of Hokua, who can walk to Whole Foods in just 6 minutes (or drive there in only 2 minutes).


One of the most impressive parts of Hokua's location, though, is its proximity to Ala Moana Beach Park and the Ala Moana Center. Ala Moana Beach Park is directly across Ala Moana Boulevard from Hokua, just a couple of hundred feet away from the Ala Moana tennis courts. For residents who enjoy exercising outside, playing with pets in the park, holding small get-togethers and picnics with friends and family, or just enjoying the Hawaiian sun, this is the ideal location. As for the Ala Moana Center, Hokua residents need only travel 5 minutes on foot in order to reach the largest open-air shopping center in the world. Here, Hokua residents are able to visit the hundreds of boutiques, stores, restaurants, and more located within this large shopping mall.

Features of the Residences

Hokua features 248 2-bedroom to 4-bedroom units, all of which are generally larger than other units in the area. There are 7 units per floor from the 4th floor to the 35th floor, 5 3-bedroom penthouse units from the 36th floor to the 39th floor, and 3 4-bedroom penthouse units on the 40th floor.


The square footage for the 3-bedroom penthouses on floors 36-39 (alongside their letter classifications) are as follows:

  • I: 2,314 square feet, Southwest ocean views
